Background: Addressing Long-Standing Vacancies
i) The client has a team of five in Vietnam and has been actively seeking to fill three critical positions — Technical Sales Manager, Sales Manager, and Technical Consultant—for over six months.
ii) Despite working with around 10 recruitment agencies, none of the positions were filled, which put significant pressure on the project timeline as immediate onboarding was crucial to maintain the progress rate. The positions required candidates with:
(a) On-site construction experience, where candidates had to be hands-on.
(b) Strong English communication skills for collaboration with regional teams. This created a significant gap, as candidates with strong English skills typically worked inoffice settings, while those with on-site construction experience lacked the required language proficiency. The client urgently needed these positions filled to ensure project progress.
Solutions: Strategic Collaboration and Clear Communication
By leveraging our regional multilingual recruitment teams, partnering with local counterpart to source talent proficient in required languages.
i) Initial Engagement and Understanding Gaps: We initiated discussions with the client’s regional HR team in Singapore to gain clarity on the recruitment needs for each role. We analyzed their hiring history, including the number of candidates interviewed and reasons for past rejections.
ii) Challenging the Status Quo: After our first batch of candidates was rejected with vague feedback, we requested a detailed discussion with the hiring managers. This allowed us to: Gain a deeper understanding of the specific requirements for each role. Present a case to reconsider candidates who had been previously rejected without interviews. we provided additional support, including:
(a) Reviewing and refining candidates’ presentation assignments (PowerPoint slides).
(b) Conducting mock presentation sessions to evaluate verbal delivery and providing actionable feedback to enhance performance.
iii) Advocating for Rejected Candidates: We persuaded the hiring managers to reassess some of our earlier candidates. Upon further evaluation, they recognized that one of these candidates, initially rejected at first sight, was an ideal match for the role.
Outcomes: Successful Placements and Strengthened Partnership
i) Successful Placements: We successfully filled all three critical roles, ensuring the client could maintain their project timeline and achieve operational goals.
